SINCE 2018

We support 2 Pilars:
The public's health
and the environment

We are HAPROBA, a startup that was born from the research of functional ingredients with high fiber and antioxidant content.
(Center for Molecular Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2015)

Public Health

Through our products, we aim to enhance people’s health and well-being worldwide. Our flours, functional ingredients and nutraceuticals support the development of healthier mass-consumption products that are gluten-free and GMO-free. The fiber and antioxidants in HBU improve metabolic health and contribute to preventing chronic diseases.

Environment

We revalue and transform by-products into flours and ingredients without using water or agricultural land. Through circular economy principles, we help build sustainable food systems for people and future generations. In doing so, we help secure the supply of essential food raw materials.

Sustainability

Imagine a world where nothing goes to waste. Where 650,000 tons of grape by-products are turned into valuable resources.
In Chile, each harvest sees 52% (APP) of grapes, including skins and seeds, discarded. Through bioeconomy, we transform these by-products into flours and ingredients with high nutritional value and functional health benefits.

Species Nutrition

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if farmed fish no longer needed antibiotics?
Thanks to the powerful antioxidants in HBU (such as phenolic compounds), microbial loads can be reduced, pathogens controlled, and oxidative stress in the digestive system (gut) of salmon and poultry kept under control.

This innovative solution doesn’t just improve animal health - it also helps combat the global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis by lowering the need for antibiotics in aquaculture.

Products

Flours and natural ingredients that nourish and support your health

Why?

We want to improve metabolic health by making it easier to consume fiber and antioxidants found in our flours and ingredients. We believe that food should heal, as Hippocrates said. At the same time, we contribute to sustainability by reusing organic material that would otherwise decompose and release greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as methane and CO₂.

We work hand in hand with industries and consumers:

  • The mass consumption food industry, by offering them healthier flours and ingredients for foods.
  • The animal nutrition industry, by providing them functional ingredients and nutraceuticals.
  • The plant-based industry, for a more sustainable supply chain.
  • Salmon farmers, by reducing the use of antibiotics.
  • The nutraceutical industry, by offering natural solutions for diabetic patients.
  • Consumers, to give them entrance to a better metabolic health to reduce overweight and obesity.

FAQ

The acronym HAPROBA specifically stands for Grape Bagasse Flours and Products. In short, HAPROBA revalues and transforms by-products of winemaking (grape skin and seeds) to produce flours, ingredients and functional additives.

HAPROBA’s final products are gluten-free flours and ingredients containing a high amount of fiber and antioxidants. You can mix the HAPROBA flour with other flours (rice, corn or quinoa flour). Or with conventional white or whole meal flours (if you are not celiac). Our product “glycemic regulator for diabetics” (sachet 10gr) can be consumed by anyone, because it contributes to metabolic health.

Thanks to the high content of fiber and antioxidant substances to strengthen the metabolic system and combat metabolic syndrome and the development of chronic non-communicable diseases.

We have pre-clinical and clinical evidence collected at the Center for Molecular Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of the Pontificie Universidad Católica de Chile. Applied to type I and type II diabetic patients. They managed to regulate post-feeding blood glucose peaks. with a dose of 10gr. of our glycemic regulator.

It comes from hydraulic presses, after fermentation, and our partner Viña Concha y Toro, does not use pesticides. Our partner VCT replaces traditional pesticides with ecological and sustainable alternatives, complying with its strict Sustainability Code.

Yes, given the content of phenolic compounds (antimicrobials; anti-inflammatories and antioxidants). To reduce the use of antibiotics feeding the fish.

Yes, HBU contains natural compounds and antioxidants like resveratrol and fisetin, which work at the cellular level and in the skin’s deeper layers. These ingredients can help protect and care for the skin. They can be used in natural creams, serums, exfoliants, moisturizers, and products that help skin cell regeneration.
